Who we are?
Televele Media Education Association was established in 2009 by teachers and psychologists. The mission of the Association is the improvement of media literacy of young children and the promotion of media education in Hungary in strong connection with the education of democratic values. The organization has completed several projects in kindergartens and schools, for instance dealing with the integration of Roma children, and a media literacy project consisting of a series of sessions in kindergartens. In every program, we put strong emphasis on the education of democratic values at early childhood, as this is the basis of media literacy.
As part of this activity it is necessary to train the teachers, and kindergarten teachers, and to form their and the parent’s attitude. We organized workshops for parents and teachers about media education, and about the way young children use media. The media education doesn’t, or only slightly appears in the teacher training in Hungary. However, the demand for media education to be adopted in kindergarten and school curriculum is higher and higher. This indicates that the Association have been invited to organise trainings for teachers at a lot of different educational institutions. In recent years, we have regularly participated in adult education in teacher’s trainings and parent’s skill improves trainings.
What we do?

Media education promotional booklet series for children aged 6 to 16 and lesson plans for Magic Walley Hungary (2015)
The Magic Valley media literacy education centres have been created by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority to support children in their conscious and safe media use. The two locations in Budapest and Debrecen provide examples for and examine the magical impact of the media, and the “valley” offers a protected, safe environment and venue for relaxed consideration, dialogue and fun.
This publication offers learning and reference points for children in areas of media education less extensively covered in textbooks, but which help enhance their quality of life, preserve their mental health (e.g. consumption, cyberbullying, healthy body image). The booklets target three separate age groups, the 6 to 9, the 10 to 12, and the 13 to 16 cohorts, all addressing their topics from multiple perspectives. Children’s media consciousness, empathy, and critical attitude can be developed via “joint” exploration of certain correlations. Drawing on modern, playful, and diverse teaching methods, educators will motivate children to think more seriously about media content and how to consume it in their everyday lives. Adopting an empathetic and supportive tone, these interactive booklets inspire self-reflection, awakening in children discerning tastes and a sense of responsibility towards their lives via their media consumption habits. As well, they provide models of behaviour vis-á-vis their friends and family.

Teacher training – respect in virtual social space (Apr. – Jun. 2014.)
This project on the one hand aims increasing the teacher’s knowledge of social networking and on the other hand enhancing student’s awareness in handle cyber-bullying. The social media generated an increased interest, not only among youth, but among younger groups of children. Besides this, another tendency could be also identifiable: rejection and negative reactions on the adults’ part, notably from teachers. Many teachers are uncertain in using social media, which block to presence the conversion about the student’s usage of social media in the school. Even so the teachers are facing the problems coming from the usage of social media by children in everyday school life.
The project focuses on improving teacher’s competences on process of the social media, and offer teaching resources, methods and technics. While dealing with this topic it’s extremely important try to avoid propagating social media, because the target group is closed to join most of the social media outlets. But according to the survey a lot of children aged 10-12 are also a member of the social media networking. The goal of the session is not to encourage students to sign up for social networking but to foster the responsible usage of social networking sites and to raise awareness of the risks involved The project focuses on real uses and needs, and not on the legal/illegal aspect of use.
From the several aspect of the topic on respect in virtual social space the training is focused on privacy in digital space and cyberbullying. Due to the characteristics of target age there is a particular importance the topic of privacy. Without understanding relevancy of privacy couldn’t be acquired many aspects of cyberbullying in this age.
